Pt1Every so often a project idea shoves itself into my brain and refuses to leave until I work on it. It consumes my life, where every waking moment is spent obsessing over each detail.<br />
<div>
The ideas generally never pan out and after a week or two testing different theories out, the drive eventually goes away.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2p2RfF3COFDOpU9wjorD6yAhhvkxQb5jxowVBti0g5oXTaBFM4uh5AlfnPIfAMbVjtjCUdWytYSNeBXKIqXX5YR3AfCXCLzoAHi3Ez5Ez8ElbBjurMjLw0330lU8a4AzKYGClbDBevEN0/s1600/Dark-Debts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2p2RfF3COFDOpU9wjorD6yAhhvkxQb5jxowVBti0g5oXTaBFM4uh5AlfnPIfAMbVjtjCUdWytYSNeBXKIqXX5YR3AfCXCLzoAHi3Ez5Ez8ElbBjurMjLw0330lU8a4AzKYGClbDBevEN0/s320/Dark-Debts.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My current project was the idea of using LED lights in mini's. Since my current game is Malifaux, that meant using a crew where glowing from the inside was going to be natural. Thank God the Dark Debts boxset was made in plastic</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A whole crew that revolved around spreading Brilliance, a corrupt light that the Hungering Darkness could feed off of, was the perfect crew to play around with.</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cbwLc-X1OlE/UkB9hiGj8BI/AAAAAAAAAaA/KxHFcyRMFsg/s1600/Graves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cbwLc-X1OlE/UkB9hiGj8BI/AAAAAAAAAaA/KxHFcyRMFsg/s320/Graves.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Unfortunately I don't know anything about LED's or how to wire them. After several days reading various tutorials and learning about using resistors to keep the lights from burning out, etc etc...</div>
<div>
I found <a href="http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/nano-smd-leds.html">this site.</a> Not only are the lights pre-soldered for me, but they even come with the correct resistors to prevent burnout! It's even cheaper to buy 10 or more! SOLD!</div>
<div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-klfc6kQERYU/UkB9fxgzV3I/AAAAAAAAAZE/cuJOp3EoHF4/s1600/Depleted+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-klfc6kQERYU/UkB9fxgzV3I/AAAAAAAAAZE/cuJOp3EoHF4/s320/Depleted+1.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They sell several different sizes, the smallest being the Nano-chip LED. The light is as small as the eye on Washington's face on a quarter. Despite the size, the lights are incredibly bright. Do not stare at them too long, otherwise you'll be seeing glowy afterimages for an hour.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't have any Work In Progress pictures as they seem to have vanished, but the general idea for me was very careful drilling using a hand powered drill through the feet and neck area, eventually meeting in the middle. I have a pretty good sense of location, because I generally don't miss connecting the two tunnels.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GPGjfbAvjSU/UkB9hOZKWfI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/yi1w_gBZK00/s1600/Depleted+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GPGjfbAvjSU/UkB9hOZKWfI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/yi1w_gBZK00/s320/Depleted+2.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
The wires on the lights are small enough that even using the smallest drill bit I had, I could string in 2-3 lights with little trouble. Of course that only really came up with some of my bigger models.</div>
<div>
Once I had the tunnel for the wire drilled out, I carved a little groove to fit the Nano-chip LED inside, generally the chest area and spun out some cheap Fiber Optics cable to continue the journey up to the eyes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C_Ju8OudIX8/UkB9gZnrbXI/AAAAAAAAAZY/Rky-2OGn__o/s1600/Depleted+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C_Ju8OudIX8/UkB9gZnrbXI/AAAAAAAAAZY/Rky-2OGn__o/s320/Depleted+3.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I use the fiber optics cable for the eyes instead of trying to fit two lights inside the heads of my models. Some of them, especially the Beckoner's had incredibly tiny skulls. With the cables sticking out (like slug eyes), I could paint the whole model without worrying about covering up the eyes, and then trim the cables down to normal size.<br />
If you look closely, you can see everyone look like humanoid slugs. :)<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
It's been a very long two years where I've basically had to stop working on models/games for a good majority of the time. Luckily, I did manage to sneak in several projects during my rare free days and with work stabilizing, I should have a semi reliable schedule again.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A quick run down of my last couple projects and with any luck, a regularly scheduled update every other week! YAY!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

My family and I ended up moving to a small country town for a few months where a game store was a myth. So I needed a board to play on. I ended up making two back to back.<br />
<br />
Graveyard shifts = LONG lonely days off.<br />

I've always wanted to try my hand at a Mining board and scrapped one together with insulation foam for all the rocky terrain and a beat up rail road set from a 2nd hand shop.<br />
The rails are just big enough to fit a 30mm base perfectly.<br />

It's been a while since I worked on this, but I seem to remember using tons of cheap acrylic paint from the Dollar Store, cheap rust pigments, and a bag or two of some hobby wooden planks.<br />

Pigments get EVERYWHERE if you are heavy handed with them. I've never used them before and this wasn't what I expected. Don't spill it anywhere. The mess is impossible to clean up.<br />

I had a couple huge tubs of green grass from a friend who does not like Games Workshop terrain supplies. On this 3'x3' board I think I used up about 1/5th of a tub? A lot less than I figured would be needed.<br />

I will not lie, I get bored painting the same style over and over again. Looking through the Wyrd forums, I came across <a href="http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?12119-Seamus-amp-His-Living-Impaired-Ladies-of-Negotiable-Affection&highlight=living+impaired">this post</a> that I instantly fell in love with. Immediately stealing JMGraham's style, I attempted my very poor imitation on my Seamus/Molly crew that I've been desperate to play with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The style is very different from anything I've ever done before and it seems to fit Malifaux so very well. I need more practice making everything blend together better and get the layers smoother, but I like my first attempt.<br />
<br />
I got my bases from Secret Weapon Miniatures. They make some very well detailed bases and the price isn't all that bad. Check them out <a href="http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/">here.</a><br />
Their pigments and washes are nice, their brushes are the best I've used, and the scenic stuff really makes a model "pop".<br />
<br />
<br />

He is massive. He has incredible personality. He is hilarious.<br />
Even if the Avatar wasn't that great, I'd still field him, because his model is just that awesome.<br />

Molly's crew was a blast to paint until I got to the Crooligans. I'm confused, because I figured painting undead ghost kids would have been fun, but turned out to be a pain in the neck instead.<br />
<br />
Rogue Necromancy was my reward for not going insane after the 3 that came in the boxset. Totally worth the frustration!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I also managed to get a swamp board completed, but I seem to have lost my pictures on that project. Not sure where I stuck them, but I'll try to get a few new pics snapped when I have some free time.<br />
I used some water effects from Woodland Scenic and not only are they incredibly expensive, but the stuff is terrible. Not only did it never dry solidly, even a year later, but over time bubbles started forming on the surface.<br />
It would look awesome except when you touch a bubble, it collapses on itself and looks like a broken plastic dome. Multiply that over a thousand all over the board. BLAH.<br />

I have a 2nd Warpig, my custom pig-a-pult, 4 totems, and Pere Ravage to paint up and I'm technically done until August when even more Gremlins come out.<br />
<br />
So, without further ado, here we go!<br />

If you ever want to learn to make a good swamp base, check that site out. They are amazing.<br />
<br />
I also asked my friend over on <a href="http://grimdarksouth.blogspot.com/">Grim Dark South</a> for some advice on his Dark Eldar bases. I'm sure if he ever updates that blog of his, you'd be able to see how good his bases are.<br />
Then I spent a good 3 days preparing myself. Having never created bases by hand except for a couple really bad (in hindsight) gravel bases, I was extremely nervous. I would hate to ruin my gremlins by creating monstrosities to pin them on.<br />
<br />
It is a lot of pictures so I'll ask for your forgiveness in advance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9KvNEO7tNP5H7rEdXlZkLvekf68xvw-mUkVHqMWJHcaooNUn2O80pz0ysr2COBkF4J0YWdryo5YIcLowUyFVVlU9m04ShJg3OrTRLf4_-o1t6TNFIQX9aH2WgC51pp2Pk3Q4BG8n9O-CM/s1600/DSC05343.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9KvNEO7tNP5H7rEdXlZkLvekf68xvw-mUkVHqMWJHcaooNUn2O80pz0ysr2COBkF4J0YWdryo5YIcLowUyFVVlU9m04ShJg3OrTRLf4_-o1t6TNFIQX9aH2WgC51pp2Pk3Q4BG8n9O-CM/s200/DSC05343.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> Remember, I followed the tutorial I found pretty much word for word. I'm not going to explain it very much because the author did a much better job than I ever could.<br />
Biggest thing I work on in the beginning was cutting out the water portions and sealing the bottoms with sheet styrene and making sure to glue the rocks down before tossing the sand on top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5uvtefyOP5GHg5zHuQBCG5oNAygAzWicXjBLnnnnJ_Ej0pPPk4vrVw_Owo8OobzZ7oSNWb1Z0K7w_6PZFXVysObGoxydvaEvzZDLEejogSl7-E_YReXPy0G9ABPW6yDgZdOfnTwDzarhA/s1600/DSC05344.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5uvtefyOP5GHg5zHuQBCG5oNAygAzWicXjBLnnnnJ_Ej0pPPk4vrVw_Owo8OobzZ7oSNWb1Z0K7w_6PZFXVysObGoxydvaEvzZDLEejogSl7-E_YReXPy0G9ABPW6yDgZdOfnTwDzarhA/s200/DSC05344.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> A few of the water sections, space permitting, I tossed in a few bits and pieces I had left over from various sources. Just to spice things up a bit.<br />
The barrel is tossed upside down, like it was spilled in by accident.<br />
<br />
Various body parts are chopped up zombie bits from GamesWorkshop.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFtO3bajbEAs5Wys3M48mGsUoxCkV1WP6dsNMhCoJInAg7oHgKBoIu25pRKq_w3OYG_PcDost1xEyfvbZpyOVi7v6US6LHt2-noLAOKyk0WPFXkKKVUuAZKGPCotzZ5OyEVGQiNrTTse4/s1600/DSC05345.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzFtO3bajbEAs5Wys3M48mGsUoxCkV1WP6dsNMhCoJInAg7oHgKBoIu25pRKq_w3OYG_PcDost1xEyfvbZpyOVi7v6US6LHt2-noLAOKyk0WPFXkKKVUuAZKGPCotzZ5OyEVGQiNrTTse4/s200/DSC05345.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> Be careful if you cut out portions to create space for water effects. If you don't create a perfect seal and partition off exactly where you want the water to go, it'll either require a lot more than you want to use or it will spill out everywhere.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1gMyLRNl2vIge32XX0z9CFSpALLsapbbeyN9K-vvKnjuD1wl9qahqZ4vAgxsbEMcx50bfKEKF87FQohtoBwW65-tOy-qXNLD6agvu_LbUa1dra1UyhRZeANF8LD7jwFfxmc6zYLi_7Lwn/s1600/DSC05347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1gMyLRNl2vIge32XX0z9CFSpALLsapbbeyN9K-vvKnjuD1wl9qahqZ4vAgxsbEMcx50bfKEKF87FQohtoBwW65-tOy-qXNLD6agvu_LbUa1dra1UyhRZeANF8LD7jwFfxmc6zYLi_7Lwn/s200/DSC05347.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> For the first base coat of paint, I had to really water down my browns. The sand and rocks had a lot of little crevasses that just didn't seem to want to take in paint.<br />
It took forever to dry and several of them required a second coat.<br />
I'm very very impatient.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2jPucF711TVRt8LmzbCUfEJQxnSYnKbxCoJAWHkj0k25IQUN6bBfy3Ie3KTUN57G_SfM1qBXslc-obzt9pP5eMZ5NypXXkgTAVbOBz0NG5zcHjEFHgonIFDg8x-OL4nS-8rxTA50MhIX/s1600/DSC05346.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2jPucF711TVRt8LmzbCUfEJQxnSYnKbxCoJAWHkj0k25IQUN6bBfy3Ie3KTUN57G_SfM1qBXslc-obzt9pP5eMZ5NypXXkgTAVbOBz0NG5zcHjEFHgonIFDg8x-OL4nS-8rxTA50MhIX/s200/DSC05346.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> Poor zombies, I never did get to use you like I wanted...Until now! I may have used a bit too much blue and didn't thin out the paint enough. Rather than a swampish feel, it's a bit brighter than I'd like.<br />
Still looks good though. Very pretty.<br />

I did my best to change up the look and size of the water portions, but there is only so much room on a 30mm base.<br />
They turned out better than I thought they would though.<br />
<br />
<br />

Note for the future, white glue dries INCREDIBLY slow and if you plan on doing these, don't do them one at a time.<br />
I had a dead brown grass and a lively green one that I mixed together and it creates a much more realistic looking patches. Beware of the fact that the crap gets everywhere and sticks to everything. Don't sneeze!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihcCioNlzrghR4uDheIyQrzGPjM6wr33lK0ehPN53ZNTzxHu4AY7Y9oZ2pZqpJ_aJTgSi9dNLBKLQtBBssQw5TOkZSlPVHIaEPof26Q_IKVQ1rhRSdCIDFkOu038EI50QIb4FG6Ad3rW0H/s1600/DSC05352.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihcCioNlzrghR4uDheIyQrzGPjM6wr33lK0ehPN53ZNTzxHu4AY7Y9oZ2pZqpJ_aJTgSi9dNLBKLQtBBssQw5TOkZSlPVHIaEPof26Q_IKVQ1rhRSdCIDFkOu038EI50QIb4FG6Ad3rW0H/s200/DSC05352.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Close up of the large pig base. I tried to glue grass in small patches and even went "off base" in several of them. It's supposed to give it a larger than life feel, as if it belongs to a bigger picture, rather than confined to a small 30mm piece of plastic.<br />
Does it work? I'm not sure, I'm not the best person to ask, but it still looks good, so it doesn't hurt to do it.<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKTj9iyo5JpUfp_ZVbI0fxhXk0xdBuej-kjOBoFPJ306YJeH50ch7kp9A7bBxWn-GJKfpO0nGK1NspcAxJeUjoNW4UDPjyAvXX8KaXMqPJ0Y8zEs_45ry3SuaJpCcuJz-R0PaMMrgKvSyo/s1600/DSC05353.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKTj9iyo5JpUfp_ZVbI0fxhXk0xdBuej-kjOBoFPJ306YJeH50ch7kp9A7bBxWn-GJKfpO0nGK1NspcAxJeUjoNW4UDPjyAvXX8KaXMqPJ0Y8zEs_45ry3SuaJpCcuJz-R0PaMMrgKvSyo/s200/DSC05353.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I started adding some tall grass that I got at Hobby Lobby. Woodland scenics makes some great terrain flock, trees, and grasses. For about 4 dollars, I have enough long grass to create a life time of bases. I did up 43 bases and barely touched the amount I bought. Less than 5% is a conservative guess.<br />
The bridges are made from balsa wood and plastic strips. Be careful with balsa wood if you work with it. Very flimsy and doesn't take kindly to having any sort of force applied to it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnjJXluVataQZ6LIhrX84Sjt6CJ6pIUs_2zDtC-RZOKcOYGoWv-GhHdmVZ-i1bUvuL8MNWymPNigRuUTTEzwcdYYDndlVJR3U8RVZHFvjrRDgUfaJOn43MLOE6L8VmSJED9OL6huah1OYM/s1600/DSC05355.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnjJXluVataQZ6LIhrX84Sjt6CJ6pIUs_2zDtC-RZOKcOYGoWv-GhHdmVZ-i1bUvuL8MNWymPNigRuUTTEzwcdYYDndlVJR3U8RVZHFvjrRDgUfaJOn43MLOE6L8VmSJED9OL6huah1OYM/s200/DSC05355.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>When you glue the grass down, watch out, it tends to lean or spread out before you are ready for it. It takes some getting used to, but you should be able to get it to stablize itself and let it dry without any babysitting.<br />
Cutting the grass is easy, getting it to look naturally grown and not perfectly landscaped is not.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWPCNDJZInaKdvNSbA-1DIJsxHHld_A62Rb2N2v2ixIK-QPEPtQBD7WRgyRry1MwQCF3tsmDWK1bfIgmfs3ThVoTN7HFCjVoAjtRZAF7-oCZXTQn-B3Y3AS3PahKOmI8K4WnxMd_1ljvAl/s1600/DSC05364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWPCNDJZInaKdvNSbA-1DIJsxHHld_A62Rb2N2v2ixIK-QPEPtQBD7WRgyRry1MwQCF3tsmDWK1bfIgmfs3ThVoTN7HFCjVoAjtRZAF7-oCZXTQn-B3Y3AS3PahKOmI8K4WnxMd_1ljvAl/s200/DSC05364.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Eventually these are going to be my mosquito bases. I haven't touched them yet as I'm still not sure what to paint them, but the signs should be a good place to pin them.<br />
I just need to remember that Balsa wood is terrible at pinning without being stupidly careful.<br />
I foresee ruined signs and lots of cussing in the future.<br />
<br />
<br />

I tried to paint them on, but I couldn't keep the letters roughly the same size and I kept spacing them too far apart.<br />
This way, my bad handwritting can be passed off as bad gremlin english.<br />

I think it was roughly 5 hours a day after work. I'm glad my wife tolerates my bad husbanding as I ignore my family for hours at a time as I obsess over my project.<br />
She's the best.<br />
<br />
15 hours of work for 43 bases. Not too bad I guess. I think I could go faster now, but it would shave off that much time.<br />

Here's a base with my 2nd Warpig.<br />
I didn't use modelling water effects, but some cheap stuff I found in the plant display isle at Wal-Mart.<br />
It's basically clear resin that I pre-mix and pour carefully. It takes up to 48 hours to dry and is extremely cheap. $7 dollars for a massive amount.<br />

I had to chip about 10 bases free and refill spots where the resin literally climbed up and out of the base.<br />
<br />
See the grass on the bottom? It was meant to be dry. It doesn't look bad, in fact it's great because it gives it a nice wet look that swamp area should have. It was just unintentional and made an impossible to clean up mess.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>The total cost of creating all these bases, not including the time required was probably about $25. I had to buy sand, pebbles, various grasses and the water effects. I didn't even come close to using up any of my materials, so technically if you ignored start up costs, I used pennies worth of materials.<br />

The process involves a lot of sand and rocks, that once glued down, I drybrush 4-5 different colors of paint to give it a nice, realistic look.<div><br />
</div><div>Then it hit me. I am painting over real rocks with several layers of paint, so that it will look realistic. It's a process that takes a fair chuck of time, to make it look real when it was real to begin with.</div><div>We do the same with metal bits such as suits of armor or iron tubing. I will prime an armored knight white/black and slowly work my way up to the silver the model started out as.</div><div><br />
</div><div>I know, it wouldn't really work out if we just left it, as is, and it's a lot easier to age or modify the color if it's primed to begin with. It just struck me as funny that some days it seems like I take a lot of steps forward just to go backwards.</div>Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-32099117264388068742011-06-14T19:59:00.000-05:002011-06-14T19:59:29.529-05:00Kingdom Death 2Finally finished putting together all three models. They weren't as bad as I had assumed they would be. I decided to give them a quick black wash to shade all the details, but unfortunately it didn't turn out nearly as well as I had hoped.<br />
Thank God I'm just going to prime them white and start painting them for real in a little bit.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV-ye0hbgOVwJQ4Nplwbje2cn56z-6YNzTSw5NYuLlZLT0qHGD8VrkAR0cjSCsYazCmEvU5iZ3aIv74M0IcTkwhwVMtjr3QNY-C6rWaomBGkVPQZE5LqhmKElYOxJ9kmK14A9QYnVV88kB/s1600/DSC05328.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV-ye0hbgOVwJQ4Nplwbje2cn56z-6YNzTSw5NYuLlZLT0qHGD8VrkAR0cjSCsYazCmEvU5iZ3aIv74M0IcTkwhwVMtjr3QNY-C6rWaomBGkVPQZE5LqhmKElYOxJ9kmK14A9QYnVV88kB/s200/DSC05328.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I'll start with the pinup White Speaker as she was the easiest. She started off as three basic pieces and one of them was the cloak that I decided to ditch.<br />
I'm not a big fan of fur cloaks and it almost looked silly on her.<br />
She was the easiest to clean up as she only had a minor mold line along the outside of her legs and one arm.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSch0LAe65Jw6-YqDCndvwIN_KUp7dWCdP47rAoKFebl4unvKoo7n_FSv_epiSerT2e1qmUvDgQeeRlcM4ITGTIm3mcIRIsHAQAovTcp26trDvMn-ibzSAFgLs_pY_3UakeOhEqqwySLAG/s1600/DSC05330.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSch0LAe65Jw6-YqDCndvwIN_KUp7dWCdP47rAoKFebl4unvKoo7n_FSv_epiSerT2e1qmUvDgQeeRlcM4ITGTIm3mcIRIsHAQAovTcp26trDvMn-ibzSAFgLs_pY_3UakeOhEqqwySLAG/s200/DSC05330.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I managed to pin her arm holding the knife in place and was thrilled at how easy it was. I love working with resin models, especially after working with a lot of tough, heavy duty metal models, resin is almost effortless to drill.<br />
The resin used in all the models is very...springy. It's strong but it has a lot of give to it. The only thing I can describe it with is a piece of wood that's still very fresh and green. It will bend pretty far without breaking till it hits a snapping point.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0g_asiqG2DC-gEHoPQWv6xPOvgmwRTIrUp83iwOJY7HLzhjW4oMUGkRnTDaZwkh04Ws8XnEZLuGDx2AKqbqu-ClO4Gac7vW9CvvXhZgc2NfT0KizAD4ltej5_uU1MrSKiLC2UAxWE6z8i/s1600/DSC05335.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0g_asiqG2DC-gEHoPQWv6xPOvgmwRTIrUp83iwOJY7HLzhjW4oMUGkRnTDaZwkh04Ws8XnEZLuGDx2AKqbqu-ClO4Gac7vW9CvvXhZgc2NfT0KizAD4ltej5_uU1MrSKiLC2UAxWE6z8i/s200/DSC05335.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>The pinup Forsaker was the 2nd one to get cleaned up. She was a tougher job. There were a few mold lines very close to the chains she has everywhere, so it was a bit hard to tell what was a mold line and what was actual detail.<br />
Sorry about the splotchy wash. The wash didn't want to stick to parts of the model. I think it's from an improper cleaning on my part and I hope it doesn't cause my primer to flake off like a bad sunburn.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVCMuY_a6VaugU4783iCtHFBZrh_ItmC8FciXYlQipNisvEo5HJpkjL8Ja9WMZvXKL0xMlHOVuxRmWsnr8jWhbNQVYiJ7qnYqZrzI5n6BUHgl4JVAr38AOvslwp8zmwkJQs6ZnjBp7YMX5/s1600/DSC05337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVCMuY_a6VaugU4783iCtHFBZrh_ItmC8FciXYlQipNisvEo5HJpkjL8Ja9WMZvXKL0xMlHOVuxRmWsnr8jWhbNQVYiJ7qnYqZrzI5n6BUHgl4JVAr38AOvslwp8zmwkJQs6ZnjBp7YMX5/s200/DSC05337.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Remember what I said about snapping point? Her sword hilt used to have a manacle hanging down. I was in the process of turning her over and it got caught on my nail and suddenly it was gone.<br />
Better broken now than after it is painted. <br />
This model had a bubble in the ankle joint where the foot attaches. It's not too bad, but it's enough that you can see the pin I placed in it. Some green stuff should take care of it though.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxDbnb7dTC8MDSnWAwCoLAAKAoGR2cGpNiXjoashxgSF6KpoXZVHaStV71h1OGeYKtAlSJ9HOYAmcCQ2_OM3fMNWmLYrC9tnEg7I-eqFG7JOvck3qQUcrMblxrZzSeKK8jvhKghNtMvl_Q/s1600/DSC05333.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxDbnb7dTC8MDSnWAwCoLAAKAoGR2cGpNiXjoashxgSF6KpoXZVHaStV71h1OGeYKtAlSJ9HOYAmcCQ2_OM3fMNWmLYrC9tnEg7I-eqFG7JOvck3qQUcrMblxrZzSeKK8jvhKghNtMvl_Q/s200/DSC05333.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Last is the pinup Preacher and her miniscule fingers.<br />
First, her fingers hardly gave me any trouble, the worst part was figuring out a way to hold it steady enough to glue to her wrist.<br />
Why didn't they just model it onto her hand?<br />
Second, this model had more bubbles in her cast than the other two combined. They were very small, about .05mm, but enough to be noticed. One bubble killed the spike on her hammer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnWDulCSlflgSas-WkcRBc3OkDwxn5f5kEQIVBJgqVO4pq1XkbN9KdsJTbPFonLx-mFKQ5OxIAqllFwnuOpuqASU5DiiRixIr7uTt9kvkS1nvu3z6gZEqzHzR3_hWUx8a3caytIgttXM6Q/s1600/DSC05334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnWDulCSlflgSas-WkcRBc3OkDwxn5f5kEQIVBJgqVO4pq1XkbN9KdsJTbPFonLx-mFKQ5OxIAqllFwnuOpuqASU5DiiRixIr7uTt9kvkS1nvu3z6gZEqzHzR3_hWUx8a3caytIgttXM6Q/s200/DSC05334.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Third, the hammer handle is VERY flexible. I accidentally bent it while trying to avoid the grasping hands of my curious daughter and it didn't snap or even feel weak afterwards.<br />
Even with the bubbles, her quality is great. Against my better judgement, I may have to use her in games, just to see her in action.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm not sure when I will attempt to paint them since I'd like to finish up my Gremlin crew and attempt to work on some bases to go with them. Perhaps my next post will be my failures and successes at Swamp basing?Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-37909437531243538022011-06-06T23:05:00.000-05:002011-06-06T23:05:07.709-05:00Kingdom Death<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Apologies all around for not messing with my blog these past few months, I've been equal parts busy and lazy.<br />
<br />
I'm a big fan of alternate models for any game system I dabble in. Doesn't matter how amazing the real models are, there is just something about having models that are different from everyone else's that I enjoy. Enter <a href="http://kingdomdeath.com/">Kingdom Death</a>, maker of highly detailed, wild, creepy and sexy miniatures.<br />
Look through their site and marvel at their line of mini's, especially <a href="http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/product/wet-nurse">The Wet Nurse</a>, <a href="http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/product/grand-mother">Grand Mother</a>, and <a href="http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/product/the-gorm">The Gorm</a>.<br />
<br />
After drooling for months I gave in and got the three models that kept grabbing my eye. The <a href="http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/product/preacher-pinup">Pinup Preacher</a>, <a href="http://kingdom-death.highwire.com/product/pinup-white-speaker">Pinup White Speaker</a>, and <a href="http://shop.kingdomdeath.com/product/forsaker-pinup">Pinup Forsaker</a>. It was going to be for my Slaanesh army I swear!<br />
It would have been four, but sadly I missed the re-release of the Wet Nurse by minutes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU6hDEUspbj8rEf-_PV3HySDdPNOpDi09aT1slukPw4btpWBvB36E-4fJPKtSEEk5WsrsK92ZuXhaLvlhRyxPvtNMnHel-qojEeYVS_CG9cE2DBaZTNaHEDE8jyFgrAa5t-03gzPIkvAN-/s1600/DSC05300.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU6hDEUspbj8rEf-_PV3HySDdPNOpDi09aT1slukPw4btpWBvB36E-4fJPKtSEEk5WsrsK92ZuXhaLvlhRyxPvtNMnHel-qojEeYVS_CG9cE2DBaZTNaHEDE8jyFgrAa5t-03gzPIkvAN-/s200/DSC05300.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>First thing I noticed when I opened the box with trembling, excited hands were these awesome concept art prints. They aren't very big, maybe a bit bigger than a postcard, but they are printed on thick cardstock and the color printing is great.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguwKosMaV9cKRpHlkkXIsvKteKyW4YuWyEh2HxpyF8Y3ThToGkngQZ_yWrDh5zzk4wVybZrnxbSNG6TpvpKkIcH38h2T_jO_4DQjWI-Uas6MoCGfMGWLC1bKD75fC9mjGdSjFsbZAY7lGB/s1600/DSC05303.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguwKosMaV9cKRpHlkkXIsvKteKyW4YuWyEh2HxpyF8Y3ThToGkngQZ_yWrDh5zzk4wVybZrnxbSNG6TpvpKkIcH38h2T_jO_4DQjWI-Uas6MoCGfMGWLC1bKD75fC9mjGdSjFsbZAY7lGB/s200/DSC05303.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Next were the boxes themselves. You can tell that the Forsaker Pinup is an older miniature because the box is missing the nice little print of what goes inside. The quality of the boxes are very nice though the printed picture isn't all that great. The ink bled together a bit and the details aren't that sharp, but its good enough to tell what you are looking at.<br />
The dime in the picture is there for size comparisons. Most of my family don't realize how small a miniature can be, so this should help them.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxkQCUe2VcwU4gwAVBReYGskMAfsX-iZ8RHarzkhWGwSZmdW2lYZoTbWHnvQimIUscZ0E0Q2fNMrJ8DZz9OPH2smygDCp-qoR4zyyUFQBb8a4oNmKoibtARIBR9HRZQKo7HPclT21z7Yq9/s1600/DSC05304.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxkQCUe2VcwU4gwAVBReYGskMAfsX-iZ8RHarzkhWGwSZmdW2lYZoTbWHnvQimIUscZ0E0Q2fNMrJ8DZz9OPH2smygDCp-qoR4zyyUFQBb8a4oNmKoibtARIBR9HRZQKo7HPclT21z7Yq9/s200/DSC05304.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Up first is the Forsaker. She was my favorite for a long time, ever since I started looking for a Khorne Herald to be used in my Daemon's army.<br />
<br />
This box was packed with stuffing to protect the model. It comes with a little thank you card and invites me to show off my work, which is nice.<br />
Everything is separated into small plastic bags and it comes with a non-descript resin base.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGCfsP2fDX67jzSlT43m5Jhwidjjc8hYTmtAqPmqgTUHnz537SyB2wwfy0fD7_7cRo2T_O1_P0xLWr-TaWh0-pCApzt4UqkR1AoJ66_fuaj5675vekozVxDzjnKmBn1G-ODPRZMIHdQ9vN/s1600/DSC05305.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGCfsP2fDX67jzSlT43m5Jhwidjjc8hYTmtAqPmqgTUHnz537SyB2wwfy0fD7_7cRo2T_O1_P0xLWr-TaWh0-pCApzt4UqkR1AoJ66_fuaj5675vekozVxDzjnKmBn1G-ODPRZMIHdQ9vN/s200/DSC05305.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
The quality is amazing. I haven't seen any bubbles, almost non-existant mold lines, and virtually no flash. Clean up on this model is going to be easy as cake. Even the head , with all it's tiny details is 90% perfect as is.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDXAaES5Gx7HXKTZQfxZ2RuLD4rHnG4ZmL5JuPW0xacfvRZeZgD7nEekB37Xu8ABZtJorydJiyY8DaNEgfRXk9fVQWFINo_VqOeocYDkLpyEv7L9ovRydhUybkSj72_a612cB89VEa3smF/s1600/DSC05307.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDXAaES5Gx7HXKTZQfxZ2RuLD4rHnG4ZmL5JuPW0xacfvRZeZgD7nEekB37Xu8ABZtJorydJiyY8DaNEgfRXk9fVQWFINo_VqOeocYDkLpyEv7L9ovRydhUybkSj72_a612cB89VEa3smF/s200/DSC05307.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
The bad part is everything is that pinning this model is pretty much impossible for me. I'm not sure I have a pin small enough to pin together her miniscule wrists.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfQP8lCtpAY64LWeiPrEZA713idizsMVWRnb082_oCH5bHX72rNEtRgQKohGO0IFWu1HcXthxbHPYnV5AT-KgkOFomkfwvZHf_0fx33-qpkI2rBJqYP_DDkLNCu0zVd5zrSP32Qbmc58e3/s1600/DSC05308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfQP8lCtpAY64LWeiPrEZA713idizsMVWRnb082_oCH5bHX72rNEtRgQKohGO0IFWu1HcXthxbHPYnV5AT-KgkOFomkfwvZHf_0fx33-qpkI2rBJqYP_DDkLNCu0zVd5zrSP32Qbmc58e3/s200/DSC05308.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />

</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Also resin models being what they are, I'm not sure I can use this model to play games with. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />

Apparently this was a re-release to celebrate their new equipment and software. With the new gear, Kingdom Death is now able to release models with even finer detail and less mistakes.<br />
I'm not sure if this is their latest model, but it seems that way.<br />
<br />
<br />

Not fuss over pinning several joints, but also almost no chance of modifying the pose or weapon. I personally will be keeping it as is, but just a heads up to everyone else, the pose is going to be static.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPn__Rjx54frXWgOCm6kqGGWIaZvNryTP_vDc57lopeZiVQknzgTcf3Ds0STtYIRRtYiEtxkKOOCcvTEGgqyn3lipHfBtLwcwvQ9ck-pecAA5x3LCpqKOVG4pzbgFtAn1XmLsY4xXHuDhR/s1600/DSC05312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPn__Rjx54frXWgOCm6kqGGWIaZvNryTP_vDc57lopeZiVQknzgTcf3Ds0STtYIRRtYiEtxkKOOCcvTEGgqyn3lipHfBtLwcwvQ9ck-pecAA5x3LCpqKOVG4pzbgFtAn1XmLsY4xXHuDhR/s200/DSC05312.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Again there are no bubbles, almost no flash, and I'm not sure I could find mold lines on this model. The fur cloak looks great and her details are very sharp. I expected something to be wrong with her jewelry or straps but they all seem to be fine.<br />
<br />
I'm thinking about using her as a Zoraida proxy for Malifaux. She seems to have a slight voodoo feel right? :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2n8uUhLvqhzEmawTmrvJuizDfqqeM7FlKy4Wf6Nu7P5-YJbydRW_rb4vIdQdumii1HkPWYUqUtBCyRCYzKRl3rj4b1YJAdwuBLgECeRkwktp-H7NrL6Uqoonw8b6sumsXcf006YFtl1xk/s1600/DSC05313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2n8uUhLvqhzEmawTmrvJuizDfqqeM7FlKy4Wf6Nu7P5-YJbydRW_rb4vIdQdumii1HkPWYUqUtBCyRCYzKRl3rj4b1YJAdwuBLgECeRkwktp-H7NrL6Uqoonw8b6sumsXcf006YFtl1xk/s200/DSC05313.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
Finally comes my new favorite model from Kingdom Death. I say this now, before I even attempt to put her together.<br />
She comes with an alternate head so I can choose to have her look like a librarian or not.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwEdUjGTV0AG-j4fY5-DFqhLfbvGeWscGfSfokfdibUgJ7oYAv78eR_-T5aVi-DONnuAvSChXWLvBB9urAKm1V08SXQtV55Czxd9KWpZvSzEjgOzKOG2QyB-YbDkS9pCxmHDR_h8rGRqUi/s1600/DSC05318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwEdUjGTV0AG-j4fY5-DFqhLfbvGeWscGfSfokfdibUgJ7oYAv78eR_-T5aVi-DONnuAvSChXWLvBB9urAKm1V08SXQtV55Czxd9KWpZvSzEjgOzKOG2QyB-YbDkS9pCxmHDR_h8rGRqUi/s200/DSC05318.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>She also comes with two right hands. I can only assume it's because they know you are going to destroy the first one in your attempt to put her together. Look at how tiny they are.<br />
The letters on the dime, the smallest coin the United States has, is larger than the biggest finger of that hand.<br />
Scared doesn't even begin to cover what I feel just thinking about using her in a game.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1X3sFQF5uJQZrdujhM3z5_z7rdWkTSKNBlOXUOe1Izc2ala3Uy3HjoKDiANfoB9JouS7iAgKKUBEtl48Etk9jtRR81vItIVxM0wfEixj3SxmuaN9yT3IEIcSkG5ehfcuamWi68tmAibD8/s1600/DSC05316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1X3sFQF5uJQZrdujhM3z5_z7rdWkTSKNBlOXUOe1Izc2ala3Uy3HjoKDiANfoB9JouS7iAgKKUBEtl48Etk9jtRR81vItIVxM0wfEixj3SxmuaN9yT3IEIcSkG5ehfcuamWi68tmAibD8/s200/DSC05316.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
The Preacher has been chopped to pieces. This will help with getting her to be posed differently, but it is going to make putting her together a pain in the ass. Pinning is out of the question, so I can only hope my superglue is up to the job.<br />
Her hammer's handle is also pretty flimsy. I may have to try and replace it with a brass rod, though I'm not sure how my chances of that are.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJEkRCrBv101bYXXFH1d508vfDhxfPOE5JcT5h_2nHBN0ZuazmDO2mGR0zq8T4P4l4L68vbSajVpGaYbXBRq14uyTW92k3pdUwIfr3ZSCoWRd4EaHOdZT05gjBwluoEa9snVG7prrtmqXu/s1600/DSC05319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJEkRCrBv101bYXXFH1d508vfDhxfPOE5JcT5h_2nHBN0ZuazmDO2mGR0zq8T4P4l4L68vbSajVpGaYbXBRq14uyTW92k3pdUwIfr3ZSCoWRd4EaHOdZT05gjBwluoEa9snVG7prrtmqXu/s200/DSC05319.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Again the model, clean up wise, is virtually perfect. Almost no flash, no imperfections, and no mold lines that I can see.<br />
Painting her is going to be a real treat, though I'll be practicing flesh tones on other models before I tackle her. I want this to be a showcase model rather than above average table top quality.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Overall, I love these mini's. The quality is top-notch and the details are astounding.<br />
I want to stress that these are not suited for gaming unless you are <i>extremely careful, </i>which is disappointing. These seem to be made as showcase models, though how that fits in with Kingdom Death's own game-in-the-works eludes me.<br />
Gluing them together looks to be a hassle, but at least cleanup will be a breeze. I will be posting new pictures once I get around to setting them up.<br />
The boxes and concept art are great. I wish most models were packaged this way.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-13054885478768632372011-03-09T20:53:00.000-06:002011-05-23T22:02:41.850-05:00Malifaux- Piglets<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxBWLI8Oeqy75TzCS7HfkBNjjbqpTjYbjboHFMV54VQ71ooPAscn55As_mJyMQqmIy5WjYmf2NzDCEYkPbdJWWOZ2rHujqU3TkIItahqiWvD1x5c2nLe7wnWIjMEetjZplOKKZ47KThVdq/s1600/DSC04898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxBWLI8Oeqy75TzCS7HfkBNjjbqpTjYbjboHFMV54VQ71ooPAscn55As_mJyMQqmIy5WjYmf2NzDCEYkPbdJWWOZ2rHujqU3TkIItahqiWvD1x5c2nLe7wnWIjMEetjZplOKKZ47KThVdq/s200/DSC04898.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Heh, I didn't realize that before these Gremlins, I hadn't painted a Malifaux model in close to 3 months. Good lord how fast time goes by when work tries to throttle the life out of you.<br />
Luckily for me these little guys were a breeze to paint.<br />
I'm slowly working my way down the list of Gremlins to paint and I'm leaning heavily towards a pig-centric list. Something about bouncing pigs back and throwing the odd explosive swine that just makes me giggle inside.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN71fWF4lijRbu9HCxwF9DJ_bXQgS-2_zM7rt7oF-kr_qUrlaUsN37KEHgfoH1JDyS7_cn0n-n6KNCNWl2JNeLPt5TmIp1PUeGLQ-Ei09VDu8KuUDlmp_paZ7_DSo0oZpyBRZkntSI-TKJ/s1600/DSC04899.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN71fWF4lijRbu9HCxwF9DJ_bXQgS-2_zM7rt7oF-kr_qUrlaUsN37KEHgfoH1JDyS7_cn0n-n6KNCNWl2JNeLPt5TmIp1PUeGLQ-Ei09VDu8KuUDlmp_paZ7_DSo0oZpyBRZkntSI-TKJ/s200/DSC04899.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I followed the same basic steps that I took for the piglets larger kin. Blood red base coat, light black wash to darken the recesses, and highlighted with a brighter red to help make the muscles pop out a bit.<br />
Mane is basically black with a light grey dry brush to help you see the various strands of hair.<br />
Teeth, hooves, and horns are just white with a splash of Gryffon Sepia to make them seem more yellowed and dirty.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1e6YReNR_QLwhsrf51lotPyoanv4PwDCu2w9wFb2U-x1emfImLstGCP-4mqHmvdK-bkpAK12141nL9dUW_Lade1Lzw3KZFhHwVSJg5Zv4vGWVTcEASywF24VmcR6P3qlMQwxzwaaGaOwh/s1600/DSC04900.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1e6YReNR_QLwhsrf51lotPyoanv4PwDCu2w9wFb2U-x1emfImLstGCP-4mqHmvdK-bkpAK12141nL9dUW_Lade1Lzw3KZFhHwVSJg5Zv4vGWVTcEASywF24VmcR6P3qlMQwxzwaaGaOwh/s200/DSC04900.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>The idea of bomb pigs is hilarious. It's the whole reason for a very pig heavy list. I'm not sure how well it's going to work, but it should be a fun game at the very least.<br />
Painted the dynamite sticks an orange with yellow stripes at the tips to help them be more noticeable against the dark red skin. I love the classic ACME bombs and everything, I just wish they would have created new models rather than reusing the classic piglets with bombs modeled on top.<br />

I think I may be getting better at painting wood. At least I did a better job with the highlights on the boxes than I usually do.<br />

It may be hard to see, but I attempted painting fire for the first time on the lit fuse. It is very similar to trying to paint lava.<br />
I made the mistake of painting the fire in reverse and starred at it for nearly 15 min before I realized why it looked so bizarre. I knew I had the correct colors down before I realized that the order it was in showed the fire starting from the top going down into the fuse.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-43787296600682428592011-02-25T19:34:00.000-06:002011-05-23T22:02:41.851-05:00Malifaux- Gremlin CrewWoo, sorry for the lack of new content. Lots of new life situations popped up and hobby time = zero. Sacrificing sleep for an hour here and there was really the best I could do to sneak in some painting time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQPSDBkfyH9fKJn9PTMlgYWnOZJBxTIakilY8z2-AJpF_myfxqgzJ9DGFTS51iniJweV_lBqQbDlpfiex0fsWjzbI7x3C6zyM4Uj6EO2tAwqUX2amNCI1puFFnnN5PzzVr6vBxZlLqg3Is/s1600/DSC04892.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQPSDBkfyH9fKJn9PTMlgYWnOZJBxTIakilY8z2-AJpF_myfxqgzJ9DGFTS51iniJweV_lBqQbDlpfiex0fsWjzbI7x3C6zyM4Uj6EO2tAwqUX2amNCI1puFFnnN5PzzVr6vBxZlLqg3Is/s200/DSC04892.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I finally managed to finish painting up the Som'er crew that I won as a prize from The Gamer's Lounge ages ago.<br />
Living in Arkansas for a few years gave me plenty of time to see what a real redneck looks like. Denim is everywhere along with worn out leather jackets, stained wife beater t-shirts, and lots of guns.<br />
The Gremlins are PERFECT.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIGSZ0fY6TcwX6y9DJfZrPy6c7PbyvDDmErNMDxhHA81_YJtZdkLcB57mBAknrHwnj3lLnMtsrz8OHc83-J_i-qALrJUnP_BEPRMXe9fjLgc_J1tIBW9Ag4dzdLBRfavU7e7o03VUCtx8l/s1600/DSC04894.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIGSZ0fY6TcwX6y9DJfZrPy6c7PbyvDDmErNMDxhHA81_YJtZdkLcB57mBAknrHwnj3lLnMtsrz8OHc83-J_i-qALrJUnP_BEPRMXe9fjLgc_J1tIBW9Ag4dzdLBRfavU7e7o03VUCtx8l/s200/DSC04894.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I decided to go with a brighter green rather than the usual dark orcish green I see everywhere. I seem to paint lots of dark colors and with the Gremlins I had a chance to go for a brighter, sillier scheme.<br />
To break up all the green, I gave them all yellowish liver spots. The spots are actually very small, barely noticeable from three feet away, but up close, they help give some character to the crew.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzKvn58egfQiwoq_L5JnoOU6DWm2_IYtviVx1Xg0zZn4pIJf1fzU-rI90YlEuRfVPyhxWbDtSSogNaj1HDuOQ48CSS6XQlVyCq4I8t_i6nphkcWgYJTLzGimdCWlKGBSk_H_q35L7U5YXv/s1600/DSC04896.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzKvn58egfQiwoq_L5JnoOU6DWm2_IYtviVx1Xg0zZn4pIJf1fzU-rI90YlEuRfVPyhxWbDtSSogNaj1HDuOQ48CSS6XQlVyCq4I8t_i6nphkcWgYJTLzGimdCWlKGBSk_H_q35L7U5YXv/s200/DSC04896.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I really dislike the Som'er model. The face just doesn't do anything for me. Once the hats and guns pack arrives from Wyrd, I may attempt to convert a regular gremlin into one carrying a massive rifle and wearing a giant hat, one that is obviously too big for his tiny head.<br />
I need to work on wood grain effects and changing up leather. They are coming way too similar for my tastes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioKzII7gRCZ84t8xpz1Y2s8sy-MjSIFlRK8jYxbSfzdxgMROUF8yk3Nikkp_6-n8GdMZfcYvAh4yQVU6nyXS6G_tcUPLESyvBNWBsUYgj-dW2mgkvAjEP8C7n-bTCjfQxGfDPzzom-21eD/s1600/DSC04897.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioKzII7gRCZ84t8xpz1Y2s8sy-MjSIFlRK8jYxbSfzdxgMROUF8yk3Nikkp_6-n8GdMZfcYvAh4yQVU6nyXS6G_tcUPLESyvBNWBsUYgj-dW2mgkvAjEP8C7n-bTCjfQxGfDPzzom-21eD/s200/DSC04897.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I had so much fun painting up the crew that I went ahead and bought pretty much the remaining models to complete my collection. I need 2 more Giant Mosquitoes, the Pig-a-pult model when it is finally released, and possibly another Giant Warpig.<br />
I did my best to model the generic gremlins into different poses or holding different gear, but I can only do so much with solid metal sculpts.<br />
Anyone have ideas for the 3 gremlins holding the rifle in the shooting position? I hate the pose and the fact I have 4 of them irritates me.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-31025967450679517622011-01-22T21:20:00.000-06:002011-01-22T21:21:57.412-06:00WH 40k- Tyranids- Warrior PrimeI wish I had enough time in the day to spend time with all my hobbies. These last few weeks, rather than completing one of my many projects, I've been spending every non-working minute playing Persona 4.<br />
Luckily for me, I've finally completed the game, which only took me 70+ hours of game time. BTW, amazing game. Check it out. It's worth it.<br />
<br />
Now that I've taken care of that particular hobby time killer, I've been messing around trying to finish converting my Warrior Prime. The goal of my Tyranid army is to have a primarily Warrior based/evolved force. This means Warrior Primes as the HQ, Warriors as the troops, Shrikes/Ravenors as fast attacks and a brood of Lictors tossed in for the elites.<br />
Of course having nothing but warrior based bugs won't help me trash vehicles so eventually I plan on throwing in Zoanthropes, hiveguard, Trygons, or Tyrannofexes. It may not be the most competitive army, but I'm hoping it'll look freaking awesome.<br />

Primes are supposed to be the biggest, deadliest Warrior's so I chopped up a couple old Hive Tyrant models to represent them.<br />
The old model is one size bigger than a regular warrior and smaller than the current Hive Tyrant, so it seemed a perfect choice.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I have a terrible problem. I have a tendency to repaint my models. No, rather, I have a NEED to change my color schemes. I'm not sure if it's because I get bored with my current schemes, if I think I can paint them better than they were before, or I'm just too cheap to buy new models to paint up in new schemes.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">To be honest, it's probably a combination of the three.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">What I have been using to great effect is Super Clean! I get it at Wal-Mart in the automotive section for about 7 bucks. The jug holds about 2 gallons worth of cleaner which is more than enough to strip 50+ models at once. It's reusable as well, so those 2 gallons can strip whole armies if you are willing to do them in sections.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The degreaser doesn't have a harsh chemical smell. I tend to get headaches when using strong chemicals, but I've yet to get one messing with this stuff. even after a couple hours straight.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It is also biodegradable. No need to dispose of it in any special manner. Straight down the sink it can go. (The stripped paint on the other hand...)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It takes roughly 24hours to take off GW style paints, up to 48hours if you've applied heavy varnish afterwards. All it takes is a old toothbrush and some gentle handling to clean the paint off. No scrubbing is needed. In fact, I'd discourage it to avoid breaking bits off your models.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Easily the best part is that soaking your metal or plastic models in there for extended periods of time will not damage them in any way. I accidentally left 2 squads of genestealers in a tub right before I moved to my new apartments and promptly lost them. Three months later I found them in a bits box still swimming in the purple waters, unharmed in any way. (I have no idea if resin can be stripped using this stuff as I've yet to try.)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A couple final things to mention. This stuff will give you chemical burns if you handle it for 15min or more. They hurt like hell and let's not even mention what happens if you happen to have a paper cut already. Make sure to buy some latex gloves before sticking your hands in, you'll thank me.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Super glue bonds will weaken considerably, so don't expect your conversions to stay in place. In fact, you might be better off cleaning up any super glue residue as you clean off the paint. Don't worry, it comes off clean. Super clean!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Finally, make sure to rinse your now clean models in warm, soapy water. If you leave any residue on your model and try to paint over it, the whole layer of paint will rub right off. Frustrating doesn't even come close to the level of emotion you'll feel.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After three months without a day off and no real time to work on anything, I started to get frustrated. Besides the joy I get out of it, painting also provides me with an outlet for all the irritation I build up managing my employees and dealing with irrational customers.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I knew it was past time to work on something when little irritations seemed major problems, so I pulled out an Ultraforge model I had been tinkering around with for the past year, sat down and pretty much finished it...6 hours later.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm actually rather proud of this model.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you haven't checked out <a href="http://www.ultraforgeminiatures.com/treewoman.html">Ultraforge</a> you really need to do yourself a favor and look at some of their sculpts. They are cheap for their size, all resin, and amazingly detailed. I had picked up the Tree Woman as I felt it would make a good alternative to Games Workshops <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440199a&prodId=prod1170187">Keeper of Secrets</a>. The official model is hideous. Slaanesh is supposed to be the Dark God of excess, desire etc. He's the only evil God to look beautiful. So beautiful he can entrall any mortal with a glance. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Why then does his greatest minions look like a cross between a man, woman, crab, horse thing?</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJA4xbAwUh_5XP8wjtYQ3m-6uy4P7vbaP-qVjqkFJ9oZy6BHucWfVeCDcrrylhoqRp2zOYzDCUKkI3kBX6D6_gW1ieJ-HrGRNggTuv-bKrMUkIP07IBSvrM3or8ZQMj4lhpRI9LppkZyHx/s1600/041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJA4xbAwUh_5XP8wjtYQ3m-6uy4P7vbaP-qVjqkFJ9oZy6BHucWfVeCDcrrylhoqRp2zOYzDCUKkI3kBX6D6_gW1ieJ-HrGRNggTuv-bKrMUkIP07IBSvrM3or8ZQMj4lhpRI9LppkZyHx/s320/041.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>Starting off, I chopped off all the extra tree limbs and branches that were...branching out from her body. Then I started smoothing out all the jagged cuts I left behind and removing the small amount of flash that was left on the model.<br />
I wasn't sure if this was going to be a Keeper of Secrets to start with or a Bloodthirster, so I ventured into the world of magnets for the first time.<br />
I drilled out a couple holes in the shoulder blades to place some demonic wings I had on hand along with a spot in each arm. <br />
The model came with alternative hands that are holding wooden knives? Eventually I want to model her holding gigantic axes rather than knives so I went ahead and magnetized them all.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgowcmG9ygGDZroT-nBnsidGqgv7A-YBGnKcACERCJw7EjfYgeGN8hE1ss0fLA4apadnQwGhZmN4GVCshXu7YWvrhH0e8f70qwt2if8SJMBMA1LEO5Syh1FNPF1ZKy1a0XnnNSjSxu9LmUB/s1600/042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgowcmG9ygGDZroT-nBnsidGqgv7A-YBGnKcACERCJw7EjfYgeGN8hE1ss0fLA4apadnQwGhZmN4GVCshXu7YWvrhH0e8f70qwt2if8SJMBMA1LEO5Syh1FNPF1ZKy1a0XnnNSjSxu9LmUB/s200/042.JPG" width="150" /></a></div> This was also the first real time I worked with modelling putty to fill in holes and work in some extra details. Sadly I tore up big chucks of the model as I tried to fit in my magnets for the first time. The holes were too big. Detail was lost. The dremel missed it's mark. I'm not sure if those are common first time mistakes, but all 3 hit me at once. On a large expensive model at that.<br />
To fix my mistakes, I had to learn how to use putty quickly. If you want to do a decent job at molding putty with very little effort, get some shaping tools. They are cheap and they helped a newbie fix some pretty nasty mistakes.<br />
You can't even tell where my mistakes or magnets are, that's how easy they were to work with.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7W0kzvxF5z0EIO8W0cK8pUXDdbf7Btj97dYQh_u7Avv0vOHXl4sNi7zETyzqtCR9SW0l2pyzL4xvw4VnJm86hEF4Id9td8GNJ0d97Lp78axPVjLeHtBHPnUCK9w08ROjZifvrdHGcTJEO/s1600/040.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7W0kzvxF5z0EIO8W0cK8pUXDdbf7Btj97dYQh_u7Avv0vOHXl4sNi7zETyzqtCR9SW0l2pyzL4xvw4VnJm86hEF4Id9td8GNJ0d97Lp78axPVjLeHtBHPnUCK9w08ROjZifvrdHGcTJEO/s320/040.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Hmm...you can see in this picture that one of my magnets didn't lie completely flush with the arm. I'll have to go back and fix that at a later date.<br />
I started off painting her the same as all my previous Khorne daemons using purple/pink as the main color. It was going great until I finished the base coat and it was pink. Overwhelmingly pink. PINK.<br />
It really was nauseating how much there was on the poor model.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-bywDYIaDA8lRCgPZ4ELJFMJGKCFaE8nEdJSeZLZzSMIJwCdOCa5V0tvbTXsWxn9fhf-PYol-5dGFt2UeCeiQEiRbAVIk9r_8oITe5wzPX8NHs-yrDGEK28jpoVi9aB6iGJ-zHcOfLkov/s1600/037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-bywDYIaDA8lRCgPZ4ELJFMJGKCFaE8nEdJSeZLZzSMIJwCdOCa5V0tvbTXsWxn9fhf-PYol-5dGFt2UeCeiQEiRbAVIk9r_8oITe5wzPX8NHs-yrDGEK28jpoVi9aB6iGJ-zHcOfLkov/s320/037.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The pale flesh tone at random intervals ended up looking much better than expected at breaking up all the pink. It's vaguely sexy while creepy at the same time.<br />
I had a blast using the GW washes on the model, in case you couldn't tell from looking at it.<br />
Sepia shaded the flesh while red and black shaded the pink. <br />
<br />
Slight highlights to brighten the edges of her "skin" and she was pretty much done.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

She is a big girl.<br />
She looked so lonely though on that large base, so I had to add something to spruce it up. <br />
I was going to add a few casualties to the base, body parts littered around, but it didn't seem very cinematic.<br />
Not sure where I got the idea of having the Greater Daemon rescue a lesser Daemonette, but it looks good.<br />
<br />
<br />

Her claw is trying to shear the boltgun in half and her mouth is screaming in rage and fear.<br />
The Marine doesn't have a care in the world. He's knocked the Daemon down, has her pinned under his foot and boltgun and chainsword ready to eradicate her evil from the galaxy.<br />
Too bad he didn't look behind himself or notice the pentagram seared into the dusty landscape.<br />
<br />
<br />

The little raised portion of the ballast/sand really aren't tall enough or large enough to give it the fiery brimstone look I was going for.<br />
I may have also been a little heavy handed with the yellow in an attempt to show a glowing light.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTNoYuvYBXVNViOHo279cOwr13vxSE_6T60fqRdUXm_BehWdtBwcxFgJgQAJcVfpfiy44RoxSGC1gx41Jm9XHzCZKPOAQo1XuMjHqStBbG7OGlNYuTARLnmlISPXe7YBbU4cwvhYZLxuc1/s1600/032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTNoYuvYBXVNViOHo279cOwr13vxSE_6T60fqRdUXm_BehWdtBwcxFgJgQAJcVfpfiy44RoxSGC1gx41Jm9XHzCZKPOAQo1XuMjHqStBbG7OGlNYuTARLnmlISPXe7YBbU4cwvhYZLxuc1/s320/032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Over all this may be one of the best models I've painted to date. It's definitely showing much improvement over my other Daemon models and I started work on those barely a year ago.<br />
If this keeps up, I may be getting ready for more advanced painting techniques like blending or Non metallic metals. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30095_md-Daemons,%20Bloodcrusher%20Front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30095_md-Daemons,%20Bloodcrusher%20Front.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">I painted them up using the same color scheme as my Bloodletters, adding in a great deal of copper and brass to give it a Khorne feel. Excessive violence and murder eventually turn my bloodletters into a massive, mindless version of themselves so they have to be chained and led into battle. Luckily my Bloodletters don't seem to mind the change.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30093_md-Daemons,%20Bloodcrusher%20Back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30093_md-Daemons,%20Bloodcrusher%20Back.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">More bright blue to help them fit in with the Bloodletters, but you can really tell I painted them onto a back that has no little bumps. I should have gone and sculpted little bumps all over like their lesser kin have.<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The shadowing from the washes turned out better on these larger models and helped tone down the brass, but I'm not sure I toned the silver down enough it feels too clean for my tastes right now. Maybe I'll go back and dirty them up a bit.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/1/10/75208_md-Daemons,%20Adjusted%20poses.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/1/10/75208_md-Daemons,%20Adjusted%20poses.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">The biggest complaint I've gotten for these models at <a href="http://www.dakkadakka.com/">Dakka Dakka</a> was that the poses were way too similar, something I agreed with. </div><div style="text-align: left;">So, I went back, tore several of the arms off and repositioned them so that they looked slightly different. </div><div style="text-align: left;">The change to the arms helped, but they really are in the same pose and have their head cocked in the same exact angle. Not sure what I can do about that as these models aren't exactly pose-able.</div>Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-45564439683530163452010-12-05T00:25:00.000-06:002010-12-11T23:12:26.864-06:00WH 40k- Chaos Daemons - Bloodletters<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30096_md-Daemons,%20Bloodletters.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30096_md-Daemons,%20Bloodletters.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I've been listening to a bunch of podcasts lately and the one I've been enjoying a great deal the last few days has been <a href="http://www.tangtwo.com/11thcompany/">The 11th Company</a>. One of the main hosts actually plays the army and I enjoy listening to his tactics and list ideas. The more they talk about how random, erratic yet effective the Daemon's are, the more I've been wanting to paint them.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The Fluff for my army is still in the working stage, but it basically goes along the lines of Slaanesh slowly stealing away Khorne's minions away from him with the promise of an excess amount of warfare, bloodshed, and violence to keep them happy. This would inevitably make Khorne weaker and Slaanesh stronger. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Unfortunately Slaanesh under estimated the sheer violent nature of Khorne's daemons and instead of minions fully under his control, they have become a mixture of the two God's natures, creating sleeker, more deviant variations.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Since I don't have a working camera right now, you'll have to make due with the few models I actually have pictures of. Starting off are my Bloodletters of Slaanesh. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30097_md-Daemons,%20Bloodletter%20closeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30097_md-Daemons,%20Bloodletter%20closeup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I really disliked the Conehead look that Bloodletters have so, to start, I chopped them down to a semblance of a proper shape.<br />
Using scything talons from my leftover Tyranid sprues, I replaced about half of the sword arms, sometimes replacing both arms.<br />
I tried to show that they were slowly growing "Daemonette" rending claws and Daemonette arms were way too skinny to use as replacements.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30098_md-Daemons,%20Bloodletter%20back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/4/28/30098_md-Daemons,%20Bloodletter%20back.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>The skin tone turned out a nice, bright, purplish pink hue that I've grown to love. Not quite the pink of Slaanesh and definitely not the red that Khorne favors. The bright ice blue was a nice easy way to keep the pink from overwhelming the models.<br />
These were the first real models I experimented washes with. While they look pretty decent, I think I could do a much better job now with what I've learned the last year or so.<br />
Sadly, I'm really not sure exactly what steps I took to get them to look exactly like this, so all newer models I paint up will look very similar, yet not quite right.<br />
<br />
<br />
I've only got about 16 or so of these guys painted as I want the Khorne part of my force to be the minority. Bloodletters, Bloodcrushers, and a Bloodthirster will be pretty much all I'm bringing. I'm hoping to make them about 33% of my 1850 army.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-55522854391781754632010-12-03T20:45:00.001-06:002010-12-06T11:53:49.575-06:00Boardgames- Hex Hex<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdiDHbHW4SONYHna4fZ4fShL04wFHSh9eJ_OtTgYq9gHHDwEB1Qdr1fB0QM-JnB20q2dqseYo0OJ_lVMt-tdhcNbUZViK3liqsHKodM-k1whmuIdukNdHhdNSNI7w_CTA69_VPxEZpulqC/s1600/hex.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdiDHbHW4SONYHna4fZ4fShL04wFHSh9eJ_OtTgYq9gHHDwEB1Qdr1fB0QM-JnB20q2dqseYo0OJ_lVMt-tdhcNbUZViK3liqsHKodM-k1whmuIdukNdHhdNSNI7w_CTA69_VPxEZpulqC/s320/hex.jpg" width="196" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">While I may not have been able to model much, I did get to play a few new games at my friend's house. One of the new ones I tried was Hex Hex.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's a quick party game that managed to get a group of fairly anti social strangers to have a blast within 5 minutes of reading the rules.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The basic jist of the game is basically a complicated version of Hot Potato once it's completely broken down to it's basic levels.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Everyone is a wizard and take turns casting a "hex" onto another player. That player must look at their hand of 5 cards and use one of them to redirect that Hex onto someone else. Eventually if no one else can redirect the hex, then the person the hex hit last loses a point and the last person to redirect the hex gains a point.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The turns go fast and furious as not only can you redirect hexes, but you may also boost them (an extra pt lost), split them into two different directions, force a hex to only go a certain direction, or take the hex only to reverse the point loss into a point gain.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The changes to a hex are cumulative. You can boost a hex, only to have your target triple the point loss, send them flying back at you, you counter with a card that splits that 3x hex onto your left and right. Now both players on either side of you have to deal with a triple loss hex, etc etc...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The first couple rounds went a little slow as everyone one read up on what cards did and how they interacted</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">with each other, but by the middle of the first game, everyone is tossing cards down, laughing as hexes are flying around everywhere only to all detonate on the player with the current high score.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>Over all the game was hilarious and very easy to play. So easy, that I had invited a friend to try it out, someone who had never played a boardgame, rpg, or miniature wargame and that person was able to get it down with little to no problems.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-62022825185107464622010-11-30T20:37:00.000-06:002010-11-30T20:37:00.662-06:00Malifaux- Ronin<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq-gfdpbFDG7s_LN88tEozDlHtf1dnE07LLQZtUGdvNEdotqdOHjxslbjA6XVB1ABrJqXWbcr4r5B2jma89SMmLfDlixZKzsQTQjeBm7MzCwKAa8N061kDVjeqJlQIuJlKX_WQXfbr26h6/s1600/DSC04650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq-gfdpbFDG7s_LN88tEozDlHtf1dnE07LLQZtUGdvNEdotqdOHjxslbjA6XVB1ABrJqXWbcr4r5B2jma89SMmLfDlixZKzsQTQjeBm7MzCwKAa8N061kDVjeqJlQIuJlKX_WQXfbr26h6/s200/DSC04650.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>This'll be a quick post as I still haven't gotten to play a game with these lovely ladies yet. Despite the errata, the ronin still look great on paper. I can't wait to mess around with them.<br />
<br />
I experimented with yellow as the main color as I've never done the color before and wanted to see how it would turn out.<br />
I hate this color. It's horribly bright, sickly, and altogether hideous.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWP5hweth7V1hbAFTvXQ20xvrwWbBkGQEQpMFpMnLZC3la9Uv1Lmb2UqNUAmAAdQHUVawb8jms5IOKBbCE5xOUBfORqDDURm_PigVl-rBh3HrvoCZmnBofj-ufikkdMNVSbi0qaM2L9Vw/s1600/DSC04653.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoWP5hweth7V1hbAFTvXQ20xvrwWbBkGQEQpMFpMnLZC3la9Uv1Lmb2UqNUAmAAdQHUVawb8jms5IOKBbCE5xOUBfORqDDURm_PigVl-rBh3HrvoCZmnBofj-ufikkdMNVSbi0qaM2L9Vw/s200/DSC04653.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>It's fairly obvious that I don't know what to do with yellow as the wash turned out pretty bad.<br />
I'm happy with her pants and of course all that practice with other Outcasts made me pretty good at leather. <br />
Once I figure out how to paint filigree on the edge of clothing, the other 2 ronin will join this one on the completed shelf.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-80828772756654295212010-11-28T20:36:00.000-06:002010-11-28T20:37:22.364-06:00Malifaux- KillJoy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCjsRLgCz_oKPie0p10HequChEjFJi0WGzRdqOaCWeAdGs-XZEXN5zdMxxV16A_ouLKGb_xhkHCasu6_Sq9TxDXpw9m1bbxV41MPaLrRshzQB0OEHTqJJd2rvgrIUbfQ_Uu2De-HHBbZPC/s1600/DSC04656.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCjsRLgCz_oKPie0p10HequChEjFJi0WGzRdqOaCWeAdGs-XZEXN5zdMxxV16A_ouLKGb_xhkHCasu6_Sq9TxDXpw9m1bbxV41MPaLrRshzQB0OEHTqJJd2rvgrIUbfQ_Uu2De-HHBbZPC/s200/DSC04656.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Feh, don't you just hate how real life invades, conquers, and destroys your precious hobby time at the worst opportune moments?<br />
<br />
I'm going to miss that painting streak I had going. :)<br />
<br />
Anyway, Killjoy is one of the few Outcast models I needed to really complete my set from Book 1. I'm not a big fan of the whole rotting fat zombie look he has going, but I am a big fan out all the rotting bodies he theoretically will leave in his wake.<br />
I say theoretical because I haven't actually run a game with him yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_KIoo6zAZq4NlDZW8gyhyepV4WYCa7tlCsJGizeYJZbvW0AgfpljPpI71xQfHiWWZ3oWxUmNv794Nnl7sbr7_Zh5u00VdKagVurO1kr58xeaDosWYHTv-sGTbRiINc4s_zXc7b3HIGozk/s1600/DSC04658.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_KIoo6zAZq4NlDZW8gyhyepV4WYCa7tlCsJGizeYJZbvW0AgfpljPpI71xQfHiWWZ3oWxUmNv794Nnl7sbr7_Zh5u00VdKagVurO1kr58xeaDosWYHTv-sGTbRiINc4s_zXc7b3HIGozk/s200/DSC04658.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I went with the purple/pink color scheme because I really wanted to emphasize Killjoy's neverborn origins rather than focus too much on the undead aspect that a lot of other people seem to focus on. Pale flesh, rotting green, etc just seemed too played out.<br />
I really had a lot of fun messing with the washes and trying out different combinations to create different color effects.<br />
It's hard to see in the pics, but there are quite a few places where the washes sort of fade together, which is as close to blending as I'm going to get.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqlSm4e-9pfYcJJCLJprD9S9HWBvxIaoJKmMIna6ZOTWiVlGQte7l9bFN12pXlFjWEnscbXYaMsJl6opKbD7PZvINNxSlXT3skNXgOjk76fq3bKntrDVeda7Y8XahMyk-XdWDy8xH7h-Bg/s1600/DSC04646.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqlSm4e-9pfYcJJCLJprD9S9HWBvxIaoJKmMIna6ZOTWiVlGQte7l9bFN12pXlFjWEnscbXYaMsJl6opKbD7PZvINNxSlXT3skNXgOjk76fq3bKntrDVeda7Y8XahMyk-XdWDy8xH7h-Bg/s200/DSC04646.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>The biggest complaint I have about the model is that his chain is really REALLY flimsy. It's on the verge of snapping off at the hook and I'm not too sure what I'm going to do once that does happen.<br />
I sorta sped through the bandages as they really bored me. Bleached bone, black and sepia wash and slight highlights to make each wrap "pop" out. Considering the speed I did them, they turned out pretty decent.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-83667346875618844442010-10-11T11:28:00.000-05:002010-10-11T11:28:44.602-05:00Malifaux- Temp. She knows what I want, need, and like, so basically what I'm saying is I have the perfect wife.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiEl2bBtdxcHMvbwZWc3KxsDtUScJi_nmLQBXFaX9t-SPG8ROwhAzKU1ugmZqzUodJ-lIjDrakLC95UBizQnm9LcRf7t0G2IuQGyojW0TQTPB82T0WqCH4YRhPHXKNg5zIq7VAbJDdAF2a/s1600/150.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiEl2bBtdxcHMvbwZWc3KxsDtUScJi_nmLQBXFaX9t-SPG8ROwhAzKU1ugmZqzUodJ-lIjDrakLC95UBizQnm9LcRf7t0G2IuQGyojW0TQTPB82T0WqCH4YRhPHXKNg5zIq7VAbJDdAF2a/s200/150.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I can't wait to paint them. The ronin are some of the best models I think Wyrd Miniatures produces, Killjoy is horrifically disgusting in the best way possible, and all of them are utter beasts in the game.<br />
<br />
While I've been running the Outcasts without Ronin so far, everything I've read says that I've been doing it wrong. Looking forward to running a couple of them a few times to see what I've been missing.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHTlh-yZbln4SkBA8FRohPsKdSYCbqpIj2OIyoFy6xjarHPwDjloRShvRhPflrd6ZBVzwrzQbOUqihFSgBuJrrQhEQ5_eEHhr3S1z-3K4-smeowIkSzTgZbhIJBL1kAHfEwQ5ihWUrHSG9/s1600/151.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHTlh-yZbln4SkBA8FRohPsKdSYCbqpIj2OIyoFy6xjarHPwDjloRShvRhPflrd6ZBVzwrzQbOUqihFSgBuJrrQhEQ5_eEHhr3S1z-3K4-smeowIkSzTgZbhIJBL1kAHfEwQ5ihWUrHSG9/s200/151.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Killjoy is mainly there because the idea of a nigh unkillable monster running rampant through the encounter, eating everyone in sight makes me giggle a little on the inside. Everyone, including my crew. <br />
<br />
With these on hand, minus the totems, I do believe I have every Vic related Outcast currently out in production. While I'm looking forward to the Special Forces and Book 2 mercenaries, my wallet will be happy to have a short rest.<br />
<br />
<br />
edit 9/30/10: Apparently I don't know how to schedule this for another day. Dur! Look, you can glimpse into the future!Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-52049643676017040812010-10-02T11:58:00.000-05:002010-10-02T11:58:56.121-05:00Malifaux- KiraiThe new master for the Resurrectionist Faction, Kirai unique among them in that she raises spirits instead of zombies. I've only played a few games with her, but so far she seems to be a great deal of fun. Overly complicated compared to the Vickies, but fun nonetheless.<br />
I've been wanting to get at least one Master from every faction, but hated all the other Rez Masters. Luckily for me, she comes with a sexy asian theme to entice people like me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdluGEpG6GLmWVyvAfL1-q6JHFCZSvDfmwfvIu6fz59xbG4sBQCTVT33D_B1e_v4CcwaGyiwofhkqtV8DtTO8XeOTRLZxqZM_OCPRyiJqC8m7vPrwdnJTb9v93_eioUJjhzCRQSah0vVxQ/s1600/096.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdluGEpG6GLmWVyvAfL1-q6JHFCZSvDfmwfvIu6fz59xbG4sBQCTVT33D_B1e_v4CcwaGyiwofhkqtV8DtTO8XeOTRLZxqZM_OCPRyiJqC8m7vPrwdnJTb9v93_eioUJjhzCRQSah0vVxQ/s200/096.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>A few of the things I've noticed is that most of her crew hit decently, but not overly so. They have average dmg per hit, but most of hits cut through armor. They have decent dmg reduction by being spirits, but have fairly low wounds. They seem to be fairly balanced considering that they have the ability to summon more reinforcements as the fights get more heated and bloody.<br />
Of course the only games I've played with them are against Ramos and Collette, construct heavy crews that refuse to turn into spirits when I need them to. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgswCmhYuk_B_QHU6EVjTtOcrudvqPueqG209aEGP9su6UNmNABgztE-gOV3UUAo72iQMS6NvZwrcy2ROXjQiNAsAqSuuv8pTBXKcgH2dO23wjZ2SXKwIFyunlJiA0qfQGUDC7Hy0iRAhDA/s1600/099.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgswCmhYuk_B_QHU6EVjTtOcrudvqPueqG209aEGP9su6UNmNABgztE-gOV3UUAo72iQMS6NvZwrcy2ROXjQiNAsAqSuuv8pTBXKcgH2dO23wjZ2SXKwIFyunlJiA0qfQGUDC7Hy0iRAhDA/s200/099.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I like the green and gold color scheme I went with. It's a lot different than most of my color schemes I generally run with. Unfortunately it seems a bit too much green on Kirai, yet looks great on Ikiryo. I just need to add a bit of gloss varnish or red enamel paint to the blood and it should look fairly "wet"<br />
The decapitated head looks fairly decent as well. Dark bags under his eyes and no pupils makes him seem almost panic stricken before his untimely demise.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhub9b3RxlfUCzmQW4Y3PSkbHKBj33D4JlNOMoA8J4Pf8pcmYJlMLqez3U-ITQBDV-B5-_uLxI0TmAjPiW1K0VgpFkVDOCHf7WnxPsjZv4uLb978e8mnvaNzwGr7ufMMIXaxKZeZrBBEu8n/s1600/098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhub9b3RxlfUCzmQW4Y3PSkbHKBj33D4JlNOMoA8J4Pf8pcmYJlMLqez3U-ITQBDV-B5-_uLxI0TmAjPiW1K0VgpFkVDOCHf7WnxPsjZv4uLb978e8mnvaNzwGr7ufMMIXaxKZeZrBBEu8n/s200/098.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Just need to wait for my next bonus to buy the rest of her crew. I'm looking at around 4-6 Gaki, at least 4 more Seishin, and a couple Shikome to finish off my collection on her.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Oh! Here's an updated picture of Ikiryo. I reversed what I did with the hair. Originally I had based it white, purple washed most of the crevasses, and inked the extreme edges.<br />
On a revisit, I inked the crevasses, purple washed the majority of the hair, then shaded the extreme edges with a light light pink. I think it turned out much better and less like a clown's hair.<br />
<br />

I'm messing around with a new lamp w/ a white bulb. Hopefully the pictures aren't too horrible.<br />
I'm not sure why, but some of the pictures I've been taking are great. Clean, crisp white light. While the majority are showing yellowish light, but it's all from the same light source. Augh!<br />
Pretty much the whole crew was a blast to paint. Detailed enough that I wasn't bored painting any part of them, varied enough that they all stand out from each other, and simple enough that I didn't feel frustrated trying to nail each and every detail.<br />
<br />

It didn't help that <a href="http://www.miniaturemarket.com/">Miniature Market</a> was having a preorder sale at 50% off.<br />
One of the crews was the Kirai boxset. Basically she's a gardener on the run, out for vengeance, and summons lots of evil spirits to get said revenge. She has a definite oriental theme going for her entire crew.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifFqvT4FaqXEaJyRc_TK5CO3RGmGNWz2NR7hA_R9vKaA9aXJIeIqAptfWS8tYjmjf3Qtkn5qdCdSVW1HLuw8z5j9G_zp_wSC_mYsePoeGZY5JCqvTDv1ZSoIj74HqewEvZ4wF1xBQdtOig/s1600/DSC04486.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifFqvT4FaqXEaJyRc_TK5CO3RGmGNWz2NR7hA_R9vKaA9aXJIeIqAptfWS8tYjmjf3Qtkn5qdCdSVW1HLuw8z5j9G_zp_wSC_mYsePoeGZY5JCqvTDv1ZSoIj74HqewEvZ4wF1xBQdtOig/s200/DSC04486.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Here's Ikiryo, Kirai's very angry, hate filled living spirit. Spooky green and tarnished gold. The majority of the gold is actually bright yellow with some metallic medium mixed in. Basically metallic medium is colorless/white metallic paint that takes on the color of whatever you mix in. Only downside is that it will make you paint lighter, as if you had mixed in some white paint with it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPch6WObsXqqYx2a_LEccqdDfbKiEma44dokXqI6ugHlczM78P5ysj3ti1Y4yDjRfjgp8qCe2HBWGUieTcYBksXBZBAcDDdNIuusT1xmHSERONYYnL_HON3M9lFJ_UT1tzgGdPUKfZ30iU/s1600/DSC04487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPch6WObsXqqYx2a_LEccqdDfbKiEma44dokXqI6ugHlczM78P5ysj3ti1Y4yDjRfjgp8qCe2HBWGUieTcYBksXBZBAcDDdNIuusT1xmHSERONYYnL_HON3M9lFJ_UT1tzgGdPUKfZ30iU/s200/DSC04487.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>The skin needed to be really pale, so rather than the "skin tone" that I've been using, I mixed some with along with Bleached Bone, giving her a very undead look. A very very light Gryffon Sepia was finished her skin.<br />
The hair was based white, washed purple, then highlighted in purple ink. Looking back, I think I should have reversed that. Inked purple, edged white, then washed purple. Oh well. <br />
I REALLY like the way she turned out for the most part.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-24331102147040049902010-09-25T22:05:00.000-05:002010-09-25T22:05:23.369-05:00Malifaux- WarpigI never did mention in the blog, due to horrible life issues, but I actually won the Malifaux contest from <a href="http://gamerslounge.coda.net/">The Gamer's Lounge</a>. I'm really sorry for forgetting to post about it. I have actually gotten the Gremlin Boxset, a Warhammer Fantasy book, and a indie mini from them. Thanks guys! I'm working on the whole crew to email you the finished pics.<br />
<br />
Well the only one I'm started work on is The Warpig. I'm not really that knowledgeable about the Gremlins, as they seem a little too wacky for me, but that will change as it suddenly dawned on me. I currently live in Arkansas and everyone here goes "Hog Wild" for the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Gremlin crew is a bunch of Redneck, giant pig riding fools. How perfect does that make this crew for Arkansas I ask you?<br />
<br />

Razorbacks are dark red with black hair running down the back from what the mascot pictures show. Basically all I really did was paint the pic in bright red, give it several badab wash layers to darken up the crevasses, and then go back over the high spots with more red to brighten up the highspots. The gremlin was painted what I can only assume is traditional Redneck garb. Bluejeans and a stained, white wifebeater shirt.<br />

The hardest part was making the thick black hair running down the back, recognizable as hair without killing all the detail. The gremlin was based in Catachan Green with a glaze of that Transparent Green ink. It brightened up the skin and still left plenty of dark green in the creases to make it look shaded. Overall, tons of fun to paint. I can't wait to work on the other gremlins.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-54612212101867943292010-09-23T21:32:00.000-05:002010-09-23T21:32:20.723-05:00Malifaux- MisakiI'm going to state up front that I don't like this model. Her character doesn't really interest me, I think the model is horrible, and over all I wish her stats were used on a better miniature. Too bad she's bundled with the Outcast boxset, otherwise I'd never have gotten her.<br />
Sadly, I do own her, so I may as well paint her to complete my set. It also doesn't help that my pictures are so bad that they make it look glossy, blotchy, and overall hideous. I swear, on the grave of my ancestors, that I will build up a proper lightbox with WHITE lights!!!<br />

She looks like she's ready to receive a money shot against her will.<br />
I like how her purple scarf thing turned out, the little pink bit I tossed in there helps it look slightly more unique, and her blue dress actually came out alright, if rather bland.<br />
Green hair because she's asian and according to anime, all asian chicks have crazy hair colors.<br />

The blade itself is pretty boring. I was tempted to try etching runes or japanese characters in the blade with my dremel, but I lost interest.<br />
The rock base she's on is actually the only thing I'm happy with on this model. If you look closely, it actually looks like a rock. I'm proud of that.<br />
<br />
Overall, once I find a suitable replacement, this model is being melted down and scattered across the 4 corners of the earth.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4134610210594194803.post-14418161595469031112010-09-22T15:07:00.000-05:002010-09-22T15:07:55.538-05:00Malifaux- HamelinNot sure what to expect from Hamelin. I only ran him once and he did a decent job of preventing certain models from doing what they wanted to do. He has the potential of causing my opponents models to do my dirty work for me, and he's pretty much the only caster in the Outcast crew.<br />
I just wish he wasn't so expensive and wasn't on a 50mm base. Seems a bit excessive.<br />

It's different and it breaks up all the browns the Outcast seems to be gathering. I've never seen a model selection that used so much leather.<br />
The blotches of white, black and brown are actually rats that he has hanging off of him. It's not evident in these terrible pictures, but you can actually tell what they are.<br />
Red eyes like the rats he loves, and a big ol' yellow toothed evil grin.<br />

You know, that old Budweiser commercial dog? No? Well nevermind.<br />
He was a little too simple to paint as his model really doesn't have any details to paint up. Good thing Spud had a big black spot on his back.Confused_Guyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05383773080172112023noreply@blogger.com0
